Spicy-Sweet Maple Toasted Nuts

Spicy-Sweet Maple Toasted Nuts

There are probably some half-full jars or cans of nuts left from the holidays, taking up space on the counter. If you’ve got about a half hour, you can turn these leftovers into a sweet, spicy, salty bowl of snacks, salad toppings, cocktail munchies or a last-minute hostess gift. This quick recipe works equally well for walnuts, pecans, almonds—even peanuts–or mix them all together.

INGREDIENTS:
• 2 cups of nuts
• 2 tblsp dark browns sugar
• 2 tblsp butter
• 2 tblsp maple syrup
• ½ tsp salt
• ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (or more)

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Melt butter and brown sugar in microwave. In large bowl, mix nuts with all other ingredients—stir very well until all nuts are completely coated. Spread mixture on lined baking sheet-spreading out nuts to cover pan. Roast for 10-12 minutes in 350’ degree oven—stirring nuts after about 6 minutes. Watch carefully—when mixture is melted, nuts are golden brown, and everything smells heavenly—they’re done!! Let cool completely on sheet, then break pieces apart. Store in covered container.
