Party Pretzels–a little heat, a little sweet

Party Pretzels—a little heat, a little sweet

Stop over at friends for drinks or a little wine—spur of the moment get-togethers. Always a few nibbles on the table too. But some of those friends always seem to have a special little something on hand—and home-made to boot. How do they do it?

Here’s one way—these fast, easy pretzels that taste great, and store well.

• In a small bowl mix together:
• ½ cup sugar
• 1 tsp salt
• ¼ tsp black pepper
• cayenne pepper (¼ tsp gives the mix medium heat)
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• ½ tsp ground ginger powder
• ¼ tsp allspice
• ¼ tsp nutmeg
• ½ cup maple syrup
• Heat 4 cups of mixed pretzels (not thick) on a parchment lined cookie sheet–350º for about 3 minutes (they should feel hot and smell good)

Put hot pretzels in large bowl and pour in ½ cup maple syrup—stir to coat pretzels (there will still be syrup in bottom of bowl)—shake sugar spice mix over pretzels—stir and toss until everything is thoroughly coated and no syrup is left unmixed

Spread pretzels on two cookie sheets until very dry and coating has hardened
