Mary Beth’s advice to her 18 year old self: I’m going to paraphrase a quote from an 11th century monk that I heard at the end of yoga class. When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. Then I got older and I wanted to change the community. Then I got older and I wanted to change my family. Now that I’m an old man, I want to change myself. I realize now that when I was young man and instead had decided to change myself, I would have changed the family, the family would have changed the community and the community would have changed the world. Mostly when you’re young, you think about changing the world–and you will. But you need to start with yourself.
