Maria’s advice to her 18 year old self: Relationships should not change who you are. If they do, it’s a toxic relationship and you need to get out. Emotional abuse is real. Even when you and everybody around you thinks you’re strong, people who emotionally abuse spend the time to wear you down. Emotional abuse is one of the worst abuses, since it’s not noticed enough and flies under the radar. If you find yourself in that position, don’t be afraid to leave and to reach out. The people who love you will be there.
