Elaine, profound thinker, mom and professional, Bronx

Elaine’s advice to her 18 year old self: When I was 18, it was a tragic year for me. I went to a historically black college on a basketball scholarship. Three weeks after I got to Tennessee, my father was murdered. I ended up coming back to New York City as the oldest of five kids. The last time I saw my father alive was the 3rd of September. The last words he said to me were ‘Take care of yourself,’ and I said ‘I will.’ I’ve carried that with me everywhere.
